Mile 22 Review: 3 Ups & 6 Downs

2. Iko Uwais' Stellar Performance

Mark Wahlberg may be the most prominent cast member of this movie, but he's not really the star. That honour goes to the brilliant Iko Uwais, who of course made his name as the hero of the superb The Raid movies, and it was just a matter of time before Hollywood scooped him up for a western action flick.

Though Uwais is constantly at war with Berg's slapdash visuals, he gives a splendidly physical performance, ensuring any time he's fighting on his feet, the action is rough and intense. Uwais also served as one of the movie's fight choreographers, and it really shows.

His English may not be great, but he speaks just fine with his actions, and brings a welcome international flavour to a movie that would otherwise feel insanely generic. He deserves better material for sure, but hopefully this is just the start of a flourishing career in Hollywood.
