Miramax remaking 2002 French thriller MAN ON THE TRAIN

It's a little like Strangers on a Train but without the innocence of Farley Granger.

If there's one good thing about remakes (and yes I'm clutching at straws) it's that it sometimes makes you take notice of a cool film you previously might have never heard of. It's certainly happened with this project for me. The Hollywood Reporter say that Miramax are to remake the 2002 Patrice LeConte French thriller Man on the Train with Thomas Bezucha (The Family Stone) to direct and Daniel Taplitz (Chaos Theory) in talks to adapt the screenplay. Billy Bob Thornton in said to be potentially interested to star.

With a 7.2 IMDB rating after over 3,000 votes, the plot according to IMDB goes something like this...
At a deserted train station, a teacher and a gangster meet and realize that each might have been better suited to the other man's way of life. As a friendship of sorts develops between these opposite personalities, each starts to envy the other and by the week's end, everything will change for both of them.
Now doesn't that sound wicked in a Hitchcock thriller kind of way? Wish they didn't have to remake it BUT at least it's made me notice of the original. You can find the TRAILER HERE. Anyone seen the original. It did manage to get a distribution deal in the U.K. and U.S. via Paramount Classics but it must have passed me by!
