Ethan then heads to Paris in an attempt to reclaim the stolen plutonium from an arms dealer, The White Widow (Vanessa Kirby), and the CIA insists that operative August Walker (Henry Cavill) comes along for the ride.

The pair prepare to perform a HALO jump, with Ethan immediately exasperated by Walker's cavalier attitude to safety, leading to him leaping from the plane despite Ethan's insistence that the rising storm made it unsafe.

Naturally, Walker loses consciousness amid the storm, and it falls to Ethan to frantically give Walker his own oxygen supply in mid-air. As a result, Ethan only barely deploys his own parachute in time, and when Walker touches down on top of the nightclub moments later, he smugly remarks that Ethan appears to have lost his oxygen.

As an expert blend of real stunt work and CGI, this is an absolutely anxiety-inducing sequence and one of the movie's most memorable set-pieces (which is saying a lot). Cruise reportedly performed the HALO jump 106 times to pull the sequence off, though Cavill sadly wasn't also allowed to do it himself.
