Mission: Impossible Fallout Review: 5 Reasons You Must See It

2. Tom Cruise Is Ridiculous

Of course, the star here is Tom Cruise. Knowing that what you’re seeing was genuinely accomplished by the actor makes the action inherently more intense, but most importantly opens the audience up to other feelings that to keep the material varied. There’s genuine suspense and threat, and when Cruise is hanging from a helicopter it’s enough to induce actual vertigo. Put simply, he’s an absolute mad man, and it’s great to watch.

However, what might go under the radar is just how impressive he is at non-verbal acting. He gets a lot to say in the movie, for sure, but it’s in the little non-verbal nuances - his face after realising his actions have made things worse, or the unspoken despair after bumping into an old acquaintance he hasn’t seen in years - where he shines so much.

Cruise isn’t simply the best action star at the moment because he does his own stunts, but because he conveys so much about his characters while doing them.
