Mission: Impossible Fallout Review: 5 Reasons You Must See It

1. It's The Best Action Movie Since Mad Max: Fury Road

Despite showering it with constant praise though, the film isn’t perfect. At two-and-half hours the movie is long, and while it never really drags, a shorter stint might have allowed it to retain the ridiculous momentum it had during the opening and final 40 minutes.

As mentioned Henry Cavill can be spotty as well, and if you’re not interested in pulpy spy plots that revel in their absurdity then there’ll only be one or two scenes you won’t be rolling your eyes at. Also, the lack of any real identifiable villain until the very end won’t be to everyone’s taste. Having a more nebulous, in-the-shadows threat is inline with this kind of fiction, but it leads to characters like Solomon Lane feeling strangely wasted.

Still, Fallout has taken Mission Impossible to the next level, which is crazy considering this is the sixth movie in a franchise spanning two decades. Only Mad Max: Fury Road comes close to the way it tells a story through people punching each other in the face, and it has set the bar for any of its ilk - be it Bond or Kingsman - who are set to follow it.

Not only is it technically accomplished, but there’s the pervasive sense that everyone involved is giving their all, making for a surprising heart at the centre of a franchise literally led by a main character who has died twice.
