Moloch has Max Headroom in WATCHMEN!
MTV have the exclusive scoop that 49 year old actor Matt Frewer has been cast as Moloch, the former supervillain who has given up his life of crime after 'finding God' during his time spent in prison. His screentime in the movie will be short, but his character is a huge plot device for the movie and if you have never read the original comic series (which you really should by the way), then you will know he's an integral part to the story. So who's Matt Frewer? Well he has already worked with director Zack Snyder on the 2004 zombie remake DAWN OF THE DEAD (he was the unfortunate Dad who had been infected) and has previously appeared in HONEY, I SHRUNK THE KIDS and guest starred in an episode of Star Trek: TNG entitled "A Matter of Time". None of that ring a bell? Well what about the 80's 'computer generated' satrical character of Max Headroom...
Yeah, so he's annoying now but this guy was all the rage back in the 80's and he even had his own t.v. show and rabid cult following. Boy, those were strange times!
Snyder has done a terrific job with the casting of WATCHMEN. I'm in favour of nearly ever person he has chosen for his movie, some of them are just absolutely inspired. Jackie Earle Haley (as Rorschach) and Matthew Goode (as Ozymandias) in particular.
I have my reservations over whether the guy who gave us 300 and DAWN OF THE DEAD (although I liked both movies) is really the right person to make this film but hey, he has done an awesome job so far.
Let's hope he gets it right where it counts and thankfully this project seems to have been completely unaffected by the WGA strike.
