Moonfall Review: 4 Ups & 6 Downs

2. The Awful Comic Relief

Moonfall John Bradley
Lionsgate

Hollywood blockbusters are increasingly averse to taking anything seriously anymore, but in a film as fundamentally silly as Moonfall we'll give it a pass.

The problem, though, is that Emmerich's script is so filled to the brim with woefully stupid "humour" that it's tough not to wish it would disappear entirely.

Much of the comedy is filtered through the designated comic relief sidekick, conspiracy theorist-turned-astronaut K. C. Houseman (John Bradley), who is saddled alongside Brian and Jo during their mission.

As much as we all love Bradley for his work as Samwell Tarly on Game of Thrones, he's helpless against the endless torrent of witless "funny" dialogue he's forced to spit out.

Fans of cringe comedy will have a chuckle or two with this one, but there are times where it lurches into legitimately painful territory.
