Mortal Kombat Movie Trailer: 7 Ups & 3 Downs

4. Up - Gore! Glorious, Glorious Gore!

Kano Gore Mortal Kombat
Warner Bros.

If you were to ask anyone - regardless of whether they have played the games or not - what the key factor of the MK series was, they'd tell you it's the gore.

MK's over-the-top violence was the selling point that attracted players to it in the first place, and it caused the game to be littered with controversy, which only made the creators seek to go further in each subsequent release.

This trailer is jam-packed with bloody and gruesome detail. You can see Kano laughing as he holds a still-beating heart in his hand - a great reference to the games. A sequence where Bi-Han freezes and crushes Jax's arms into oblivion, and a dramatic scene where Hanazo Hasashi takes out a collection of - presumably Lin Kuei - fighters with his signature weapon.

All a MK movie needs to do in order to please viewers is fill this gory quota. Even if the product itself is awful, it will achieve what it needs to if the film has a tonne of gruesome fights and bloody visuals.

From what has been shown in the trailer, this adaptation is going down the goriest route possible, and fans couldn't be happier.
