Mortal Kombat: Scorpion's Revenge - 10 Biggest "Holy Sh*t!" Moments

Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion's Revenge is yet another slightly modified retelling of the events that take place in the original Mortal Kombat, this time in a 2D animated format similar to other WB animations such as the DCAU.

We once again see our original heroes from Earthrealm come together under Raiden's guidance, as the last hope for their world to remain separate from Outworld and out of Shao Khan's tyrannical rule. But the centerpiece of this movie lies elsewhere, as the title suggests, focusing heavily on one of the most recognizable characters of the franchise.

Mortal Kombat fans know how Scorpion is more than the powerful, hellish ninja we can play as or see in the games. Once a human man, Hanzo Hasashi is now a tortured revenant raised by the powers of the Netherealm, seeking vengeance against Sub-Zero, the man responsible for the slaughter of his family and clan, the Shirai Ryu.

The movie exposes this backstory to more general audiences while also bringing the shock, gore, and violence that the franchise is known for, giving us many amazing moments, whether reimagined or never seen before.

At the very beginning of the movie, we find Hanzo and his son going about their daily lives - warm family feelings, foreshadowing lessons, games- until it's time to go back to the village. Everything is strangely silent and cold, Scorpion knows something is wrong, then the Lin Kuei come after them and the fun begins.

The first kill in the whole movie is Hanzo blocking the assassin's knife with the lid of a container, sending it spinning in the air just for the flair, stabbing it on his head and then slashing upwards, splitting both the Lin Kuei's head and the lid, all while holding his son.

Then more Kombat ensues as we see the first X-ray, a thrust of a dagger through a cheek, breaking teeth and jaw, even knocking out eyes. This is the magic of 2D animation, the exaggeration and creative freedom you get when using it.

After more action, Hanzo finally finds the body of his wife. As his son cries, we see something snap in him, and just as the music kicks in, more Lin Kuei appear, giving us an awesome scene of Hanzo going berserk and turning around as we see an assassin's terrified face on his sword, the screen around him turning red.

Later he is confronted by Sub-Zero, who ruthlessly murders his son in front of him before killing Hanzo.

What a great way of introducing what's to come, and reassuring fans that they will not be shying away from head-splitting, blood-spilling, and bone-breaking in great detail.
