20 Most Anticipated Movies of 2027

Many admittedly rolled their eyes when a new Exorcist movie was announced, considering we haven't had a genuinely good entry into the franchise since The Exorcist III way back in 1990.

But a lot of heads were turned when Universal revealed that the new film would be written and directed by Mike Flanagan, who with the likes of Gerald's Game, Doctor Sleep, and his TV shows The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manor, and Midnight Mass, has proven himself one of the great horror filmmakers working today.

And if anyone can bring some much-needed life back to The Exorcist IP, it's surely Flanagan, who is so extremely adept at fusing deep-dish characterisation with viscerally effective scares.

It doesn't hurt that the ensemble cast is stupid-good, with Scarlett Johansson leading a cast including Chiwetel Ejiofor, Jacobi Jupe, Sasha Calle, Hamish Linklater, Carl Lumbly, John Gallagher Jr., Carla Gugino, John Leguizamo, Diane Lane, and Laurence Fishburne.

Don't be shocked if this ends up being the best Exorcist movie since William Friedkin's hallowed original.
