20 Most Anticipated Movies of 2027

The Star Wars franchise hasn't been having a great time of it as of late, but Disney surely hopes that following the disappointing critical and commercial performance of The Mandalorian and Grogu earlier this summer, their fortunes might reverse with Star Wars: Starfighter.

An entirely standalone Star Wars adventure with no sequel plans, Starfighter is set five years after the events of The Rise of Skywalker and follows a pilot, Kade Auberon (Ryan Gosling), who must fight to protect his teenage charge (Flynn Gray) from evil forces.

Despite the film wrapping back in December, we still don't know a whole lot about it, except that it's set to be a Star Wars adventure largely free of the series' hefty franchise baggage - which just might help it land with the mainstream.

Beyond Gosling and Gray, the cast is stacked even for the standards of a Star Wars movie, including among its number Matt Smith, Mia Goth, Aaron Pierre, Simon Bird,  and Amy Adams. Shawn Levy (Deadpool and Wolverine) directs.
