Mother's Day 2013: 10 Movies For Guys To Watch With Their Mums

8. Romancing The Stone

romancing the stoneWhy you'll love it: Ummmm, Kathleen Turner. This was the movie that really propelled her to fame and it's not hard to see why. Besides her, we're treated to Michael Douglas at the top of his game and an awesome tale of swashbuckling mayhem. Directed with gusto by Robert Zemeckis, the film never let's up. It's a big, loud, adventurous movie full of double crosses and a dash of romance. One of the best action/adventure movies of the 1980's -- while not quite at the level of Raiders of the Lost Ark (what is?) it's a nice substitute. Why mom will love it: Ummmm, Michael Douglas. It's no secret that women love Michael Douglas and this was a young, handsome Douglas playing the hero with a romantic side. It's an adventure but is also a love story underneath it all. Robert Zemeckis found just the right balance and thus created a movie with scenes that thrill as well as scenes to make the heart swoon. Your mother will be rooting for the pair to end up together and the ending will not disappoint. A good solid choice.

I'm married and live in New York with my wife and pets. I'm a writer and definitely not a comedian (just ask my wife). I've successfully linked my twitter, goodreads, facebook and google+ pages although the successful aspect of all that is up for debate. I also started my own blog on wordpress and have just finished my first novel, The Violent Winds. Now it's time to try and trick some unsuspecting fool into buying it.
