The Muppets: Ranking Every Movie From Worst To Best

6. The Muppets Christmas Carol

A solid adaptation of Charles Dickens' classic novel about Ebenezer Scrooge and his ghostly plight on Christmas Eve, The Muppets Christmas Carol has required viewing for many families during the festive period. That isn't to say it's without flaws, but for the most part, the film is a decent and a genuinely faithful retelling of an old favourite. The story is one that has been done to death in Hollywood with Bill Murray and Jim Carrey filling the cranky miser's slippers, but the Muppets' take on the tale may be the most memorable. For instance, Gonzo takes on the role of Charles Dickens and is easily the most entertaining part of the film. His interplay with Rizzo is a welcome addition to an otherwise bleak plot, and his narration sets up scenes without becoming overbearing. Kermit is his usual gracious self as Bob Cratchit, echoing themes of togetherness and selflessness against the Victorian backdrop, while Michael Caine - in no ways at his absolute best - still gives a reliable performance as he treads the character arc from miserly banker to generous do-gooder.

I love all things imaginative, from the page to the screen, and nurture a soft spot for Donald Sutherland and Daniel Bryan.
