3. Black Holes and Revelations (2006)
A combination of electronic and space-rock, protestations about politics and elements of science-fiction, Black Holes and Revelations is certainly a brilliantly bizarre album. It bursts in with the powerful Take A Bow which beautifully hates on political leaders, and then it turns to the romantic and spacey, Starlight, which certainly has an interesting drum beat; its Morse Code for t*ts. The album has loud, powerful tracks, like Supermassive Black Hole or the incredible Knights of Cydonia. As well as softer songs like Soldiers Poem which was going to be jazzed up and exciting but instead it was left as its core self; finding its power in its message. As well as songs with meaningful messages about the state of society; think political corruption, revolution and new world order, the album also includes Muses take on love songs. Map Of The Problematique, might sound like another track about society but it includes the sweet line of since I met you. Since breaking up with his then-girlfriend, Matt Bellamy has changed the lyrics in live performances to since I lost you, showing that it was clearly written about her.
Key Tracks: Supermassive Black Hole, Knights of Cydonia, Soldiers Poem.
