Mute Review: 4 Ups & 6 Downs

1. Clint Mansell's Entrancing Musical Score

Mute Alexander Skarsgard
Netflix

The fantastic Clint Mansell provides the film's musical score - just as he did on Moon - and true to form, it's another hypnotic, synth-driven sci-fi score from one of the best composers in the business.

It's probably fair to say that the score is not among his very best work - it feels a little derivative and familiar in places - but it nevertheless helps create an emotional cushion for the film's less-assured moments.

More than anything, it ensures that even when the script or direction falters, as it frequently does, Mute is an absolute feast for the ears.
