Mute Review: 4 Ups & 6 Downs

4. Alexander Skarsgård Is An Impressively Subdued Lead
Alexander Skarsgård has quite the task on his hand here as a voiceless protagonist who must use his physicality and facial expressions to sell his character to the audience.
Though the actor certainly isn't working with the best material, he at least does a solid job conveying the downtrodden heartbreak of his character, especially in the third act when things naturally get their diciest.
Did he deserve better? Absolutely, but he rises to the challenge of an unconventional lead part, and generally won't leave you wishing he'd just open his damn mouth.
Plus, his chiseled good looks make him an easy fit for Jones' visually vibrant world, ensuring the camera loves him in just about every moment.
