Mute Review: 4 Ups & 6 Downs

3. The Gorgeous Visuals

For the many mistakes Jones makes creatively, it's hard to fault the film's impressive visual spectacle. Again, the world does feel overly indebted to Blade Runner - right from an early glimpse of a dust sweeper that feels ripped straight from it - but the general production design and visual effects quality help create a film that, above all else, is incredibly easy on the eyes.

Jones could definitely have done more with his shot selections, which sometimes feel rushed and a little too TV-esque for their own good, but from moment to moment, it's a handsomely mounted effort that makes it a little easier to put up with the film's scripted pitfalls.

Stay at home dad who spends as much time teaching his kids the merits of Martin Scorsese as possible (against the missus' wishes). General video game, TV and film nut. Occasional sports fan. Full time loon.
