Nerve Review: 6 Ups & 5 Downs

An effective, but flawed techno-thriller.

In a summer of disappointing blockbusters, here comes an unassuming little tech-thriller to dust away the cobwebs and offer up an alternative to CGI-fueled superhero throwdowns.

Nerve may not be perfect, but it's nevertheless an entertaining stab at the role of technology in our lives, and the nefarious applications it potentially has. Garnering mixed-positive reviews from critics so far, Nerve won't be for everyone, but it certainly soars more than it stumbles, and is a rock solid calling card for directors Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman, not to mention on-the-rise talents Emma Roberts and Dave Franco.

On paper this one doesn't invite many expectations beyond being perversely enjoyable B-movie trash, but the end result is, surprisingly enough, a good deal more impressive than you'll probably anticipate, even if it could certainly use work in some areas. Still, it's earned better reviews than Batman v Superman, Jason Bourne and Suicide Squad: soak that one in for a minute.

Here are 6 ups and 5 downs from Nerve...
