Nerve Review: 6 Ups & 5 Downs

1. The Third Act Is A Mess

As entertaining as that opening hour is, the film's third act goes wildly off-the-rails and might simply be too much for some audiences. The implausibilities mount up, and what was a semi-grounded premise basically ends up totally silly, amping up the ridiculousness and melodrama in fairly unsavoury fashion.

Don't be mistaken: it's still enjoyable to watch, though it almost feels like somebody else came in and rewrote the last third of the script, because it feels so much more heightened than what came before. Character logic falls off a cliff and the ending is sure to leave many unsatisfied, as it rushes to a conclusion that honestly doesn't really feel earned.

And now, let's look at Nerve's positives...
