Nerve Review: 6 Ups & 5 Downs

2. It's Tamer Than You Probably Expect

Nerve Emma Roberts Dave Franco

Nerve has an undeniably delicious premise that suggests an increasingly dark tone, where players are dared to do the most profane and degrading things in exchange for cash.

As it stands, probably because of that pesky PG-13 rating, this is a surprisingly tame film for the most part, with many of the dares being more silly and playful than legitimately dangerous (at least until the final reel, anyway).

The BBFC title card for the movie describes it as containing "risky imitable behaviour", such as characters going prone underneath trains and hanging off construction cranes, but in terms of salaciousness, the movie's actually more restrained and less trashy than a lot of people will be both expecting and hoping for.

No, nobody dares someone to get balls deal in a dead pig or anything like that, which makes it almost disappointingly classy.
