6. Colony
Colony is a new zombie film from Train to Busan filmmaker Yeon Sang-ho, and though his output ever since has been maddeningly inconsistent - especially Train to Busan's woefully disappointing standalone sequel Peninsula - Colony sure looks like it might be a return to surging form.
The film focuses on a group of survivors attempting to outrun a viral outbreak which transforms the infected into ever-evolving entities which relentlessly pursue the uninfected.
The trailer for Colony looks absolutely bonkers in the best way possible, with a clear emphasis on outrageous body horror over almost everything else. If we can get some of the affecting character dynamics that made Train to Busan such a hit, though, that'd be great too.
The film was recently selected to screen at the Cannes Film Festival in its Midnight Madness strand, which hopefully means it might be one of the more distinctive zombie films of the last few years.
