Benicio Del Toro is an extremely talented actor that Marvel has had in its stable for quite some time. However they have failed to use him to his full potential. Reserved for side bits, post-credit sequences and odd supporting work, Benicios immense talent has been largely wasted. He's at his best when he is given free range to improvise and to get as weird as he wants with his character (think of his role in The Usual Suspects). In Guardians of the Galaxy the Collector was weird, but in a way that felt a little forced and contrived. If given enough room Del Toro has the capability to nail his role, but he needs a little leeway. Hopefully he'll get it soon too, because it's likely that he'll be getting a lot more screen time in Phase 3. As Thanos and the infinity stones become more and more involved it is likely that we will see a lot more of the Collector and all of the crazy things he has in his vaults. Whether his extended presence in the film is a good thing though? That's still up in the air. However, all other things being equal, Del Toro has what it takes to turn the Collector into a fan favorite.
