New Batman Film: 10 Reasons The Joker Must Return

3. He's The Most Compelling Villain

Aside from his relationship with Batman, The Joker is easily the stand-out villain in the Rogue's Gallery, and should be the first choice for any director looking to completely reboot the series. There are other enticing options, like The Riddler, The Penguin and Clayface who would seem the most likely of choices given the recent takes on Catwoman, The Joker, Two Face, Bane and The Scarecrow, but any choice other than the Joker would feel either like a second string choice or a step in the inevitable journey back to his re-appearance. Fans recognise the fact that the Joker has been the most successful Batman villain on screen so far, and it is unlikely that their preferences for the character will be changed through the inclusion of another villain. And that success comes from how compelling the character is as a villain - and what's not to love? He is a psychologically unstable clown with a penchant for chaos and destruction, a murderous thirst for destruction and an all-encompassing desire to destroy the Batman. He is classed as one of the greatest fictional villains of all time for good reason, and to ignore his claim to being in the next film based on what has happened in past films would be a mistake.
