New Deadpool Trailer: 8 Major Revelations From Director Tim Miller

8. One Less Tie To The X-Men

While Deadpool is set firmly in the world of the X-Men, it appears as if the movie is going to some lengths to differentiate itself from that franchise. Could that be down to Fox feeling the need to be cautious about attaching this clearly hard R movie to their popular and profitable PG-13 X-Men movies? That's one possibility, but those of you hoping for some ties to Wolverine due to the fact that Wade Wilson is also given his abilities by Weapon X will be sorely disappointed based on comments from producer Simon Kinberg. Asked about the organisation that recruits the terminally ill mercenary, he described it as "a workshop where Wade has willingly come to try to fix his life but it gets a lot more broken", with director Tim Miller then piping in to add, "You could say it€™s a poor man€™s Weapon X." In other words, it's not Weapon X! Could this alteration go back to the fact that Mystique took William Stryker's place at the end of X-Men: Days of Future Past? This is certainly a major change from the source material regardless (though the time Wade spent working with Wolverine as part of that programme obviously never happened now that X-Men Origins: Wolverine has been wiped from history), and it will be interesting to see what new villainous agency Deadpool introduces into this world next February.
