New Deadpool Trailer: 8 Major Revelations From Director Tim Miller

7. A New Take On (Sorta) Familiar Characters

Despite the fact that Deadpool is very much adhering to the source material when it comes to the appearance of the titular character, much of the supporting cast look very human (Ajax is a million miles away from the mutated look of his comic book counterpart for example), but the movie is going about handling their respective powers in very interesting, and occasionally very different, ways. For Gina Carano's Angel Dust, the translation of this fairly obscure character from page to screen is a faithful one, with Miller explaining: "Her powers in the comics are - she€™s a little like the Hulk, in that the angrier she gets, her adrenaline sort of activates this super strength. So the angrier she gets, the harder she fights and stronger she is, so that€™s her power in the comics and we try to play that up a little bit in the fight sequences." Negasonic Teenage Warhead on the other hand is something else altogether. Her precognitive powers have been ditched in favour of something a little more explosive, with Miller comparing their take on the character to someone like Nitro. "She can transfer the force of the explosion down so she can move upwards," he explains. "She can put it into a punch if she wanted to. So it was really just her fist exploding as she hit somebody. we tried to mix it up, even though we didn€™t use that particular thing in the movie, but it was the idea." Basically, they just wanted to use her for her cool name, so don't expect a whole lot of adherence to the comics!
