20 Awesome Recent Horror Movies That Flopped At The Box Office

Tilman Singer's unforgettably strange sci-fi horror film Cuckoo is one hell of a bewildering ride - an experience as unpredictable as it is tenaciously acted by Hunter Schafer and Dan Stevens.

And between both the festival hype and involvement of Neon, it sure seemed like the $7 million film was primed to be at least a modest success at the box office.

Yet even with strong reviews backing it and a fairly sizable release in 1,503 U.S. cinemas, Cuckoo settled at a mere $6.7 million.

In retrospect it's obvious that Neon didn't have the same faith in Cuckoo that they did their other major horror release in the summer of 2024, Longlegs. Cuckoo's marketing simply didn't hit the same way or manage to sell its admittedly tricky premise to mainstream audiences.

While there's likely no reality where Cuckoo grossed anywhere close to Longlegs' $128 million, a fair return on its relatively low budget should've absolutely been possible.
