20 Awesome Recent Horror Movies That Flopped At The Box Office

17. Heart Eyes

From one holiday-themed slasher to another now, Heart Eyes definitely seemed primed to be a hit, given that the genre-bending slasher rom-com released the week before Valentine's Day and looked like a whole ton of fun.

Yet even with reviews largely praising its clever fusion of genres, gnarly kills, and the chemistry of its cast, Heart Eyes didn't even crack double its $18 million budget worldwide, stopping short at a mediocre $33.1 million.

Analysts pointed to the film underperforming with couples, as only 40% of opening weekend viewers saw it with a partner.

Couple this with an abject failure to connect with international audiences - with the film making more than 90% of its box office stateside - and it was an unfortunately perfect storm for Heart Eyes to strike out.

And yet, considering that Heart Eyes 2 was recently revealed to be in development, with original director Josh Ruben having already penned the script, we can assume that it absolutely cleaned up on streaming.

Much like Silent Night, Deadly Night, this one should at least enjoy annual streaming play around Valentine's Day weekend.
