5. The Toxic Avenger
2023's remake of cult classic horror-comedy The Toxic Avenger was finally released in the summer of 2025 after sitting on the shelf for almost two years following its premiere.
And so to the surprise of many, it received strongly positive reviews for reinventing the series while retaining its wildly over-the-top tone, enough that many fans felt that filmmaker Macon Blair should become the caretaker of the Toxic Avenger IP moving forward.
With the original film spawning three sequels - admittedly of wildly varying quality - there's absolutely hunger among the fandom to see more Toxie adventures, especially with this cast and crew doing such a solid job rebooting such a transgressive, niche franchise.
And though Blair has stated his firm desire to make a sequel if the stars align, that possibility is totally up in the air given that the reboot grossed just $3.4 million globally.
While its budget hasn't ever been publicly reported, it surely can't be low enough to have turned a profit - especially with a cast including Peter Dinklage and Kevin Bacon.
