20 Recent Horror Movies That NEED Sequels

17. Smile 2

Smile 2's ending may have been incredibly predictable, but sometimes the obvious path is also the right one, as was certainly the case here.

In the mesmerising sequel's climax, cursed pop star Skye Riley (Naomi Scott) is possessed by the Smile Entity while performing on stage, prompting her to stab herself in the eye with her microphone in front of thousands of her fans.

The film abruptly ends, ambiguously teeing up a threequel which could potentially see the curse spread to all of Skye's traumatised fans, effectively turning it into an apocalyptic event.

Of course it's entirely possible this isn't actually what Smile 3 will be about, but either way, a sequel that picks up from where the previous film left us needs to get made.

Though Smile 3 was confirmed to be in development in 2024, it was announced earlier this year that original writer-director Parker Finn wouldn't be returning to direct per his increasingly busy schedule.

While Smile 3 will probably still happen with another filmmaker at the helm, it'd definitely make sense to strike while the iron is hot, and yet we're already two years removed from Smile 2.
