New Image From Star Wars Episode 8 Set, Filming On The “Home Stretch"

Filming on Star Wars: Episode VIII could be finished before Rogue One.

While the standalone/prequel movie is currently undergoing reshoots (which, depending on what you believe, are nothing to worry about or worthy of Death Star levels of terror), Episode VIII director Rian Johnson has revealed that shooting for the next film in the new trilogy is almost completed.

Johnson took to his Tumblr account to state that filming was on the "home stretch," and also share a new image from the set, which just so happens to be Luke Skywalker's cloak next to some sort of cave dwelling, presumably on Ahch-To where he was hiding for most of The Force Awakens.

Given that Luke was deliberately missing from the promotional build-up to The Force Awakens, it seems like this time he'll have a bigger role in getting the hype machine rolling for Episode VIII, so we can avoid any of that #WheresLuke nonsense.

As for the image itself, well it seems to be the same cloak that Luke was wearing at the end of the last film, but apart from that there isn't much to be gleaned from it, although it is cool to see.

Meanwhile, it's good to hear that filming is going well on the film, and should be completed soon before Johnson heads into some extensive post-production. Until the inevitable reshoots and outcry that it's going to be a disaster, anyway.

Star Wars: Episode VIII is scheduled for release on December 15, 2017.
