20 Announced Movie Sequels NOBODY Expected
8. Cool Runnings 2
Cool Runnings is one of the most indelible sports comedies of the 1990s and one that told a totally complete true life story, so a sequel just didn't seem to be on the cards, like, at all.
But last summer, industry insider Daniel Richtman revealed that Cool Runnings 2 was now in active development at Disney and would center around an all-female bobsleigh team.
It's certainly easy to question whether the world needs or even wants another Cool Runnings considering how of-its-time the original is, and especially accepting that this will presumably be an incredibly loose sequel without much tangible connective tissue to the original.
We'll have to wait and see how development goes, but it's fair to assume that this will be a direct-to-Disney+ joint rather than a glossier theatrical sequel, because it's virtually impossible to picture it blowing up the box office.
As Disney streaming sequels go, though, hopefully it'll turn out more Hocus Pocus 2 than Home Sweet Home Alone.
