New Mutants Movie: 10 X-Men Characters We Want To See

9. Cable

Ah, now here€™s a tricky one. Nathaniel Summers, aka Cable, was the son of founding X-Man Cyclops and Madeline Pryor, a clone of Jean Grey who showed up shortly after Jean€™s first death. Scott and Jean got back together after she returned from the dead and Madeline went crazy/evil. Scott and Jean then raised baby Nathaniel until he was infected by a techno-organic virus by Apocalypse. To save the boy, Jean and Scott took him to the future to raise him in relative safety. Cable returned sometime later, now all grown-up and half machine because of the virus, and eventually became the leader/mentor of a series of teams including the New Mutants and the first X-Force. Whew. Oh, and a parallel-universe version of Cable, named Nathan Grey, was also briefly a member of the team. This character was created when Mr Sinister, a servant of Apocalypse, used the DNA of Scott Summers and Jean Grey to create a new weapon to use against his enemies. This version was also significantly stronger than Cable, being free from the virus that curtails the original€™s vast telepathic and telekinetic powers. Cable is a central part of the New Mutants books because he was the team€™s teacher and leader, effectively combining the roles of Professor X, Cyclops, and Wolverine. He could also provide a potential link between X-men: Apocalypse, New Mutants and X-Force. As for that complicated origin, well, they hardly stuck to the book with characters like Havok (originally Scott Summer€™s younger brother) and Nightcrawler (originally the son of Mystique and Azazel) so there€™s no reason why they shouldn€™t mix things up, or even completely ignore, some elements of Cable€™s origins.

With a (nearly) useless degree in English literature and a personal trainer qualification he's never used, Freddie spends his times writing things that he hopes will somehow pay the rent. He's also a former professional singer, and plays the saxophone and ukulele. He's not really used to talking about himself in the third person, and would like to stop now, thanks.
