New Mutants Movie: 10 X-Men Characters We Want To See
8. Sunspot
Born and raised in Rio de Janiero, Roberto Da Costa is the son of an Afro-Brazilian businessman and a White Brazilian archaeologist. Sunspot possesses the ability to absorb and channel solar power. Sunspots powers first manifested during a confrontation with racist bullies during a football game. Shortly thereafter, Roberto came to the attention of both Professor Xavier and a group of anti-mutant terrorists. Adopted into the wider X-Men team, Sunspot formed a long-lasting bromance with teammate Cannonball (both characters recently left the X-Men to join the Avengers), and proved himself one of the most intelligent recruits on the team. Sunspot was the first South-American character introduced to the franchise. Sunspot featured, albeit in a non-speaking role, in the highly successful X-Men: Days of Future Past, appearing as part of the group of mutants fighting the advanced sentinels in the future. If Fox are looking for characters to tie New Mutants to the existing films, Sunspot will do nicely. Moreover, his flashy powers will only add to the all-important fight scenes on which all superhero films hang these days.
With a (nearly) useless degree in English literature and a personal trainer qualification he's never used, Freddie spends his times writing things that he hopes will somehow pay the rent. He's also a former professional singer, and plays the saxophone and ukulele. He's not really used to talking about himself in the third person, and would like to stop now, thanks.
