New Mutants Movie: 10 X-Men Characters We Want To See

6. Rogue, Shadowcat, And Iceman

A recurring group of characters in the first X-Men trilogy, Rogue, Shadowcat and Iceman formed one of the two love triangles in the franchise. The characters€™ relationships are the embodiment of teenage angst, dodgy emotional entanglements, and hormones. Rogue can€™t touch anyone without nearly killing them. Metaphor. Kitty can pass through physical objects to avoid being hurt. Metaphor. Bobby€™s ice form protects him from harm. Metaphor! For three characters that, between them, have central roles in all but one of the main X-men titles, these three remain surprisingly underdeveloped. Rogue remains afraid of, and unable to control, her powers. In the comics, she€™s gone through phases of varying levels of control, as well as periods permanently absorbing other characters€™ power sets, including Ms Marvel and Wonderman. Kitty Pryde, meanwhile, was kind of short-changed in Days of Future Past, where the leading role she plays in the original comic was given to Wolverine instead. Finally, All-New X-Men has recently outed Iceman as gay, and the fact that Bobby is caught between Shadowcat (the girl who walks through physical objects without touching them) and Rogue (the one girl in the entire school he can€™t physically touch) could play nicely into that. Whether Fox will decide to play into the recent revelation in the comic books that Iceman is, and secretly always has been, gay is anybody€™s guess. Although Fox has already stated that the New Mutants will focus on a group of, well, new mutants that haven€™t yet been seen in the movies, it makes sense to have some characters to link the team to the earlier X-Men titles. Although never a part of the New Mutants comic books, Kitty Pryde was the X-Men€™s go-to tag along kid for most of the nineties and, still being on the younger side of the team in the movie franchise, has the potential to bridge the gap between the older and younger characters nicely. Ultimately, these characters pretty much come as a set in the movie franchise, and the appearance of one is likely to be dependent on that of the others. Either Fox will try to include all three in an attempt to carry over some pre-existing interpersonal tension from the earlier films, or will likely leave the three older characters behind in the core films.

With a (nearly) useless degree in English literature and a personal trainer qualification he's never used, Freddie spends his times writing things that he hopes will somehow pay the rent. He's also a former professional singer, and plays the saxophone and ukulele. He's not really used to talking about himself in the third person, and would like to stop now, thanks.
