New writer on THE LONE RANGER!
It's pretty clear that The Lone Ranger movie that was quickly coming together in 2008 with George Clooney (as Ranger) and Johnny Depp (as Tonto), from the writers of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise is done in that particular form, and Disney are to start again from scratch. Depp might still be interested in the role depending on the quality of the new draft that Justin Haythe (Revolutionary Road) puts together, but I honestly think working with Tim Burton and appearing as Jack Sparrow is his "fun" projects and he will fill up the rest of his time with serious affairs. At least, that's what I would hope. The hiring of Haythe to put together a new draft feels like an apologetic move from Disney chairman Rich Ross. When he took over the role from Dick Cook last year, he publicly canned half a dozen Disney productions, the most high-profile being McG's 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea remake that was to be shot from Haythe's screenplay. This feels like a sorry of sorts from Ross. "Neither of us were to blame for the fact 20,000 Leagues wasn't going to work... no hard feelings, and that?"
