1. It Doesn't Fully Live Up To Its Potential

Enjoyable as News of the World is, it's also a film that doesn't even begin to reach its on-paper potential.

Outside of the obvious Oscar hype, a Hanks-Greengrass western should probably prove far more memorable than this, and the worst thing you can really say is that few will be talking about it a few months from now.

It's an efficient and well-made movie with shrewdly cast actors doing their thing, yet the sum of its parts doesn't quite stick - a solid genre film but not particularly inspired in any major way.

Given the triumphs we know Hanks and Greengrass are capable of, especially when they're paired together, there's a slight feeling of deflation that comes with the movie being oddly unmemorable.

But if you're able to cast the buzz aside and simply embrace the film as the straight-forward, modest western it is, there's still plenty to enjoy in the moment. Here's why you should absolutely watch News of the World...
