As refreshing as it was that Safin (Sami Malek) didn't in fact turn out to be Dr. No as widely theorised by fans, there's no denying the power of nostalgia, and the general audience desire to see classic movie characters reinterpreted for a new generation.

The Blofeld (Christoph Waltz) of the Craig movies may have been an underwhelming disappointment overall, but the iconography of classic Bond villains speaks for itself, and it therefore seems unlikely that the next era of Bond will consist of entirely original villains.

It's reasonable to expect rebooted iterations of at least a few iconic baddies, whether Dr. No himself, Goldfinger, Scaramanga, Jaws, or Oddjob.

Perhaps we could see one of these villains even gender-swapped if the aforementioned female villain finally comes to fruition.

It's difficult to imagine the producers resisting the urge to remix classic villains who have an instant brand identification with even the most casual of Bond fans.
