Nicolas Cage's descent into mediocre genre movies continued at pace with Lee Tamahori's sci-fi infused action thriller, that just about managed to claw back its $70m budget at the box office. In what was becoming an increasing rarity, Cage actually decided to go with his own hair for the project, yet still ended up looking ridiculous. The combination of a rapidly receding hairline and a slicked-back hairdo is always a difficult one to pull off, and unfortunately the actor fails miserably as it seems to take on a life of its own during the course of the movie, refusing to be tamed. The unnaturally dark dye-job doesn't particularly help matters either, although the movie did give birth to the 'my hair is a bird' meme, one of the thousands of Cage-related memes to be found in the dark reaches of the internet...
