No Ash For THE EVIL DEAD Remake

Cult actor tweeted yesterday "No Ash character currently... [Evil Dead] remake is a re-telling. All bets are off & all involved love the new approach."

The Evil Dead films brought the idea of B-movie twisted horror to the masses and propelled little known actor Bruce Campbell to the realm of of cult godhood. There are several things that make Sam Raimi's trilogy some of the greatest cult B-movies of all time, an over affectionate tree, a chainsaw hand and the character of Ash to name just three. So when rumours of an Evil Dead remake started to become more than rumours the obvious questions start to surface, who will write the script? Will Sam Raimi return to direct? Will Bruce Campbell return in his most iconic role and if not who will replace him? Well we have already heard that a script is currently being penned by Diablo Cody, of Juno and Jennifer's Body fame, and that it will be directed by unknown Fede Alvarez. So that only leaves whether Bruce Campbell will return and if not then who will play Ash. The answers: No and No-one. Bruce Campbell revealed over Twitter yesterday that;
"No Ash character currently" " remake is a re-telling. All bets are off & all involved love the new approach."
Of course we all hope The Evil Dead will try and recapture the essence of the original movies whilst bringing in some fresh blood to rejuvenate the franchise. This maybe easier said than done as the Necronomicon gets brought down from its shelf and dusted off yet another time. Could a new film with new characters rise to the mighty heights of the originals or fall down to the sound of loyal fans groaning audibly like so many remakes and sequels seem to be doing over the last few years?
