Noah: 7 Biblical Films That Should Have Come Before

7. Song of Songs

In Case You Missed Sunday School

Actually, they generally don't cover this book in Sunday school, at least none that I ever attended. It's a poem about the courtship between a man and a woman. Its authorship is sometimes attributed to King Solomon, although it may have simply been dedicated to him (The book is also called "Song of Solomon"). The poem has been interpreted in numerous ways, from being an allegory for the relationship between God and Israel to a model for Christian love.

Why It Should Be a Movie

Okay, all that may sound boring and un-cinematic, but bear with me. Here are a few passages from this book:

"Like an apple tree among the trees of the forest is my beloved among the young men. I delight to sit in his shade, and his fruit is sweet to my taste. Let him lead me to the banquet hall, and let his banner over me be love." (2:3-4)

"Your stature is like that of the palm, and your breasts like clusters of fruit. I said, 'I will climb the palm tree; I will take hold of its fruit.'" (7:7-8)

This book is full of boning. You want something that can lure in both the Fifty Shades of Grey fans and the religious folk? Look no further. I'm picturing an arty, erotic tone poem. The critics will love it, the audiences will devour it.

Dan Schindel loves movies more than you do. He considers it an accomplishment to have survived a year and counting in Los Angeles. Someday, he'll be the greatest critic in the world. He spent a year watching a documentary every day, so now he knows everything.
