Noah: 7 Biblical Films That Should Have Come Before

2. Job

In Case You Missed Sunday SchoolJob is a righteous and blessed man who becomes the subject of a bet between God and Satan. Satan believes that Job is devout only because he is comfortable, so God kills Job's family, removes his possessions, and inflicts him with ailment. Job spends a full book wondering as to the cause of his suffering, all while refusing to condemn God. Why It Should Be a MovieA central, extremely divisive question of all religion and Christianity in particular is why bad things happen when God supposedly loves us. The story of Job has been cannibalized often by the arts (most recently, you can see elements of it pop up in A Serious Man), but the story itself has gone unadapted by Hollywood. It's easy to see why: it's an unpleasant tale that raises difficult questions while providing only speculative answers. But there's such a rich philosophical vein to dig into with this material that it simply must happen. And I guarantee you that whatever actor took on the role of Job would get an Oscar nomination, at the very least.

Dan Schindel loves movies more than you do. He considers it an accomplishment to have survived a year and counting in Los Angeles. Someday, he'll be the greatest critic in the world. He spent a year watching a documentary every day, so now he knows everything.
