Old Review: 5 Ups & 5 Downs

1. Yes, It's Got A Satisfying Plot Twist

Old 2021
Universal

Again, no spoilers here, but Old does have a customary Shyamalan plot twist lying in wait, and you know what? It's actually pretty damn fun.

Even though the director overreaches with his ending, the biggest narrative reveal lands with sufficient impact and doesn't make the same mistake of being excessively contrived as with Shyamalan's more infamous rug-pulls.

It won't be to all tastes, but it's relatively modest for the filmmaker's standards and feels entirely in-step with the film's established tone, rather than taking a hard left-turn into something jarringly absurd.

It'll invite plenty of debate, for sure, but if you're with the movie up to the point that the twist drops, you'll probably roll with it.
