One Mind Blowing Secret From Every MCU Movie
36. Why The Hulk Didn't Look Like Edward Norton - The Incredible Hulk
Like any big franchise, the MCU has had its ups and downs when it comes to CGI. However, one thing that has typically been done incredibly well is how the Hulk has been brought to life. In particular, how both the Jade Giant and Red Hulk have looked like Mark Ruffalo and Harrison Ford, respectively.
There is an outlier here, though, in that the huge green rage monster from The Incredible Hulk looked nothing like Edward Norton. There are a few different factors as to why this was the case, according to The Reign of Marvel Studios.
Firstly, the design of the character had started long before Norton was even cast, and secondly, the actor's face simply didn't fit on a Hulk. Being as narrow as it is, any kind of modification to suit the Hulk began to distort it, making it no longer resemble Norton at all.
Arguably, the most important aspect is that Edward Norton showed absolutely no interest in getting in the motion-capture suit and putting in the work for that side of things. Though he specifically argued to play both sides of Banner's character, taking over creative control was seemingly more of a priority. Tim Roth, on the other hand, truly embraced this part of his role as Abomination and worked closely with expert Terry Notary, who went on to play Cull Obsidian in Avengers: Infinity War.
