Oppenheimer Review: 8 Ups & 2 Downs

5. The Lack Of CGI Is Heavily Appreciated

Christopher Nolan is responsible for creating some of the most magnificent action sequences in cinema. What's more impressive is how many of these scenes were achieved through practical methods. Although Nolan has no aversion to computer generated effects, he only utilises them as a last resort.

But since Oppenheimer taps into the unseen world of quantum mechanics, it seemed CGI was fully warranted.

But according to Nolan, Oppenheimer contains no CGI whatsoever. Even though viewers catch glimpses of sub-atomic particles like quarks, electrons, and superstrings, these visuals were brought to life through practical and optical effects. These magnificent images can be attributed to visual effects supervisor, Andrew Jackson, who also created the stunning SFX on Mad Max: Fury Road, without relying on computers.

This decision is deeply appreciated since badly rendered effects can take viewers out of the story, ruining the cinematic experience. Since this isn't a concern here, Oppenheimer keeps viewers enchanted from beginning to end.
