6. A Superhero Movie FINALLY Gets A Best Picture Nomination

Black Panther
Marvel Studios

More than a decade after the Marvel Cinematic Universe first kicked off, the superhero genre has finally landed its first Best Picture nomination.

Though The Dark Knight and Logan were famously snubbed for the award despite passionate campaigns in previous years, the sheer pop-culture spectacle that is Black Panther managed to smash the glass ceiling in a joyous moment for comic book fans.

There's already been a ton of backlash about whether or not the movie truly is worthy of being in the Best Picture race, but let's consider a few things here.

First and foremost, it hasn't got a chance in Hell of winning, and secondly, in a year where Bohemian Rhapsody, Green Book and Vice are nominated, is it really worth complaining about a universally acclaimed superhero film getting a nomination?

Bravo to Marvel Studios and everyone involved with Black Panther.
