Oscar Nominations 2023: 8 Ups & 9 Downs

4. Surprise: Glass Onion (Best Adapted Screenplay)

Though it was a shame to only see Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery land a single, solitary Oscar nomination, at least it was in a pleasantly surprising category.

After being nominated for Best Original Screenplay for his Knives Out script, Rian Johnson repeated the achievement in the adapted category - an automatic designation for sequels - for his riotous murder-mystery follow-up.

Given the ingeniously nested, non-linear nature of Johnson's intricately set script, it's most certainly a worthy nomination, even if many expected it to ultimately miss out.

Fingers are now crossed that Johnson can pull off the three-peat when Knives Out 3 releases a few years from now.
