Oscar Nominations 2023: 8 Ups & 9 Downs
3. Shock: Triangle Of Sadness Gets Best Picture, Director & Screenplay Nods
It wouldn't have surprised anyone if class warfare satire Triangle of Sadness ultimately went home with zero Oscar nominations, but to the surprise of many it ended up snagging three in major, above-the-line categories.
Triangle of Sadness was nominated for Best Picture, and both Best Director and Original Screenplay for the great Ruben Östlund.
While it's a shame that Dolly de Leon didn't additionally sneak into the Best Supporting Actress field, it was still a strong showing for a polarising yet ferocious piece of work.
Though Östlund's film doesn't stand much chance of winning anything, to see it represented more-than-once in such major, prestigious categories is a massive victory for the Palme d'Or-winning drama regardless.
