Oscar Nominations 2023: 8 Ups & 9 Downs

7. Guillermo Del Toro's Pinocchio Gets Just A Single Nomination

Perhaps the most depressing - if not terribly surprising - Oscar flame-out this year was Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio, which ended up receiving just a single nomination for Best Animated Film.

And while del Toro's film has an extremely strong chance of walking away with that award, it's a wonderful movie deserving of so, so much more Academy love.

Best Picture, Director, Adapted Screenplay, Production Design, Sound, Original Song, and especially Original Score would've all been worthy nominations, and yet as stop-motion animation sadly often tends to be, del Toro's film was only recognised within the medium of its creation. For shame.
