1. Hollywood The Hero
Most people want to portray a positive image of themselves to the world. The film industry is no different. Argo depicts the life-saving efforts of those in the film industry, in particular John Chambers, a make-up artist who helped the CIA in their efforts to rescue American Embassy workers during the 1979 Iranian hostage crisis. Its not often the film industry can play the role of super hero without donning a Batman or Superman costume, so this is a chance to pat themselves on the back and say job well done. This also comes amidst rising criticisms against the film industry so essentially, Argo provides a firewall for those in entertainment. By giving the film a Best Picture Oscar, the Academy is saying, that we the film industry made a difference in history. That may be too tempting to pass up.
