Oscars 2013: 10 Things The Academy Got Wrong

6. Too Much Singing

It was made clear early on in this year's Oscar telecast that music was a prime theme of the show, so at least we were eased into the fact that we were going to have to listen to a lot of it over the next 3 and a bit hours. Yes, a lot of it really worked - the Les Mis medley was great, the Bond songs rocked, and yes, Jennifer Hudson can still sing - but didn't it just feel a lot like overkill by the time we got to the 17th song of the night? With an excessive rendition of Chicago (featuring some pretty horrendous miming from Catherine Zeta-Jones) and that opening song from MacFarlane, it quickly became a numbing experience, such that by the time it got to Adele's turn to sing, I felt thoroughly exhausted by it all. Plus, it ground the show's pace to a glacial halt, when these things already drag on long enough, let's be honest.
